The Japan Festival Chicago is the largest Japan showcase in the Midwest. On this day that we attended, the festival was concentrated on Okinawa and the culture of the “Ryukyu” Islands. The family got to experience all the different art and food that the festival had to offer. We also got to see a Okinawan Karate demo very similar to the 1980’s movie phenomenon, “The Karate Kid”. We got to experience some of the tastiest food to date! Unfortunately, Nick was unable to attend as he was fulfilling his duty as an Army Reserve Soldier for the weekend.
We got to experience a little bit of Japanese culture during our visit to Epcot at Disney World, check out that episode here: https://youtu.be/DdLIz62iIBY

The mission of Japan Day is to introduce Japanese culture to local residents in order to improve and promote unity among the various cultures that comprise our community. More than 9,000 people visited the Japan Festival last year, enjoying Japanese dance, music, Taiko drums, tea ceremony demonstrations, martial arts and more, as well as shopping at the Marketplace and tasting Japanese cuisine at the Food Court. Kids will love playing with traditional Japanese toys and games at the Kids’ Corner. This year the Japan Festival is reborn as Japan Day at the Arlington International Racecourse.
